The Lady Huskies opened conference play with three tough matches against Starmount, West Wilkes, and an upstart North Wilkes team who entered play this week with a 6-2 overall record.

In the first match last week, Ashe was defeated three games to zero by Starmount, who currently sits in second place in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Ashe also battled third place West Wilkes last Thursday, and came away with a 3-0 loss. The Lady Blackhawks took game one 25-5, game two by a score of 25-11 and the third and final game by a score of 25-15. West Wilkes entered play this week with a 4-1 record in the MVAC.

Most recently, the Lady Huskies faced North Wilkes at home in just the third home match of the season.

The first game went down to the wire with both squads capitalizing on scoring opportunities. North Wilkes ended up taking the first game, 25-21. In game two, North Wilkes pulled out to a 10-point advantage at 20-10, and never looked back, taking game two 25-15

In game three, Ashe was not going to go away easy. The Lady Huskies took a 3-2 lead before North regained an advantage at 8-5. The Lady Vikings pushed the lead to 13-8, forcing a timeout from Ashe head coach Lindsey Williams.

The timeout seemed to work as Ashe pulled to within four points at 15-11, thanks in large part to two aces on serves.

After Ashe cut the deficit to four points, North start pulling away to take a 21-12 lead. Ashe continued fighting back, scoring five unanswered points, including points from Abby Lopp, Aspen Domske, and Sloan Elliott.

That would be the closest the Lady Huskies would get to taking the lead. North finished off game three with a 25-21 win and took its seventh win of the season. North moved to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the MVAC.

Ashe returns to the court on Tuesday at home against Wilkes Central.
