Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams took the top spot in its most recent meet at West Wilkes High School last week.
The Lady Huskies finished with 26 points while West Wilkes finished with 33. Starmount, Elkin, and Wilkes Central also competed in the meet, but did not have enough runners place to receive a team score.
Mac Church took fourth place overall, finishing in a time of just over 22 minutes. Victoria Reed took sixth place in a time of 23:47 followed closely by her teammate Tyler Eller in seventh place, completing the course in 24:10.
The ladies got good performances from Chelsea Eller in ninth place, Alexes Armstrong in 10th place, Carolina Trent in 12th place and Chrissy Simmons in 14th.
On the men’s side, Ashe placed four runners in the top 10 spots, and held on to barely beat West Wilkes and Elkin. Ashe finished with 46 points, followed by West Wilkes with 48, Elkin with 55, Wilkes Central with 70 and Starmount with 117.
Andrew Tedder led all Husky runners with a finishing time of 18:45, good enough for fifth place. Gareth Berry took sixth place just seven seconds behind. Senior Jonathan Nichols captured eighth place, crossing the finish line at 19:26 while Richard Burke finished ninth at 19:31.
Other Ashe runners that placed in the scoring totals were Tony Mendoza (18th), Zach Gouge (23rd) and Nathan Jolly (26th).
The cross country runners will compete in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Tuesday at East Wilkes.
