During adverse weather, while most people are safe at home, telephone linemen and other personnel risk their safety to restore needed services sometimes resulting in severe injuries such as that sustained by Eddie Krider.
Krider, a Skyline telephone lineman was injured around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 as he was cutting a tree off a telephone line in western Ashe County.
According to Karen Powell, public relations director for Skyline, “The employee was part of a SkyLine construction crew that had been called out at 4 a.m. to assist the Department of Transportation and local fire department to help re-open the road along N.C. 88 in Warrensville where a telephone line had been struck by a tree and closed off traffic. As the employee was cutting the tree off the telephone line, it kicked back and hit him.”
Krider was taken to Ashe Memorial Hospital and later transferred to N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He sustained broken ribs and a punctured lung and is undergoing further evaluation.
