Tommy Spagnolo has found a home at Appalachian State. After transferring from Radford, the former Ashe County Husky is now part of the Mountaineer basketball program.
Spagnolo has made appearances in both of App State’s games so far in the young season. In ASU’s 86-54 win over Montreat in the opener, Spagnolo scored four points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench. On Tuesday, App lost to High Point 86-64 while Spagnolo pulled down three rebounds in 10 minutes of play.
At Radford, Spagnolo averaged just over three points and three rebounds per contest, and battled a few nagging injuries along the way.
While playing for Marc Payne at Ashe County High School, Spagnolo was one of the most dominant post players around. He was a three-time all-conference and all-tournament performer in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference, and also captured the MVAC Player of the Year award during his senior season.
The Mountaineers will be on the road for the next three games. ASU travels to Campbell on Friday, Nov. 16, then will go to East Carolina on Nov. 20 and Virginia Tech on Nov. 23.
App State will return home for a non-conference tilt against Duquesne at the Holmes Convocation Center on Nov. 28.
The first Southern Conference game will be in Cullowhee with the Mountaineers facing Western Carolina on Dec. 8.
