The Ashe County Board of Education has announced that Mr. Donnie Johnson has agreed to serve as the interim superintendent of Ashe County Schools for the remainder of this school year.
Johnson served as superintendent of Ashe County Schools from 1999 until his retirement in 2009.
“The school system is fortunate to have a person of Mr. Johnson’s caliber and character to provide stability through this transition period,” said Charles King, chairman of the Ashe BOE.
Johnson appointment comes after current Ashe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Travis Reeves announced his resignation last week to accept a similar position with the Surry County Schools.
The Board of Education hopes to establish a time line for the new superintendent search at its January 2013 meeting – that information will be provided as soon as it becomes available, said King.
