June Parsons Correll died on Dec. 19, 2012, at the home of her son, Joseph Correll, in Hopewell, Va.
She was born on June 15, 1926, in West Jefferson, daughter of the late Charles O. and Verdie (Miller) Parsons.
June was an avid reader and loved to travel. She spent many years abroad when she followed the military career of her husband, Allen’s, assignments to Washington, California, Virginia and Nurnberg, Germany. As a military spouse and mother, June managed the family while Allen served in northern Italy during World War II, and in the Korea War where he was highly decorated.
In 1966, after retirement, June and Allen made their home in Spring Grove, Va. They returned to West Jefferson in 1971, where June enjoyed working for many years at McNeill’s Department Store.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Allen B. Correll; and her siblings, Claiborne and Clara.
She is survived by one sister, Johnsie Lyles of Orlando, Fla.; her three sons, James A. Correll (Sandy) of Prince George, Va., Jonathan C. Correll of Eugene, Ore., Joseph P. Correll, of Hopewell, Va., and her daughter, Catherine Correll Walls [Mack] of Spring Grove, Va.; six grandchildren, Kristen Constantineau (Rob) of Grandy, Jordan Berryman (Steve) of Surry, Va., Allison Correll, of Washington, D.C., and Christopher, Casey and Curtis Correll of Eugene, Ore.
June was blessed to have four great grandchildren; Jake and Henry Berryman and Luke and Anna Constantineau. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
June was a member of Obid’s Baptist Church and a private graveside service will be held by the family at Obid’s Cemetery in Ashe County.
