Ashe County traveled to North Wilkes for a Mountain Valley Conference match, but came back home with a tough 42-25 loss.
In the 106-pound and 113-pound divisions, North Wilkes scored a pair of technical fall victories. Jose Aguilar beat Andrew Tedder, 17-1 and Lucas Smoot knocked off Jacob Weaver, 15-0.
Ashe got a win in the 120-pound division when Carter Calhoun defeated Austin Crane by a 12-4 major decision.
The next three matches all went in the Vikings’ favor. Austin Lequire pinned Wiley Dillard in 40 seconds in the 126-pound class. Scottie Pawelski picked up a technical fall win over Bodi Miller, 16-1 and Zach Wagoner pinned Chase Conner at 1:26 in the battle of 145-pounders.
The Huskies captured wins in four of the next five matches. Michael Elliott picked up a forfeit victory in the 152-pound class. 170-pounder Lucas Miller earned an 8-1 decision win over Luke Johnson, Justin Scarborough pinned Cody Wagoner at the 2:43 mark of the match in the 182-pound division, and William Miller made quick work of his 195-pound opponent Quinton Byrd, pinning him in 30 seconds. North’s lone win came at 160 pounds where Dustin Wagoner pinned Joshua Hamilton at the 1:01 mark of the match.
North won the final two matches in the 220 and 285-pound divisions. Joshua Hutchens beat Mitchell Brown by a 7-5 decision, and Dakota Bell pinned Jacob Woods at 3:03.
Ashe will return to the mats on Friday to host reigning conference champions West Wilkes.
