An accident on Silas Creek Road near Rivers Hill resulted in the death of a local woman yesterday at approximately 4 p.m., according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The woman was later identified as Janet Stuart, 41, from Lansing, according to Trooper W.P. Miller who responded to the accident.

The accident occurred while Stuart was traveling northbound on Silas Creek Road in her 2002 Ford Ranger and drove off the right side of the road, leading her down a steep embankment, according to Miller.

Miller said there was no indication of speeding because her vehicle wasnt badly damaged; only about $200 worth of damage was inflicted on the vehicle. According to Miller, Stuart was secured by her seat-belt.

Miller said he could only speculate about the cause of death for Stuart.

Well have to wait on the medical exam for that (the cause of death), said Miller. Until we get the medical exam back, anything I say will just be speculation.

The Lansing Volunteer Fire Department and Blue Ridge Medical Transport responded to the accident.
