The Lady Husky softball team captured their third victory of the season on Tuesday with a 5-1 triumph over visiting Starmount.
Brianna McCoy pitched all seven innings and allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts.
Offensively, McCoy had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs, Hannah Blevins was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with an RBI and Sloan Elliott collected two hits, drove in a run and scored twice.
“We played well and were able to put some hits together and score some runs,” said head coach Bill Key.
Defensively, Ashe struggled in its previous game against Forbush with eight errors committed. This time though, the defense was nearly flawless as they committed just one defensive miscue.
Ashe is now 3-7 overall and 3-7 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
In junior varsity action, Ashe won a thriller over Starmount by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take an 11-10 victory. Kierra Trivette knocked in the game-winning run on a single that scored Avery Taylor.
Makenzie Wallace pitched all seven innings to get the victory. The sophomore gave up 10 runs with six of them earned on 11 hits and eight walks while recording seven strikeouts.
Emily Poteat led the way on offense with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor also added three hits and scored a pair of runs. Wallace was 3-3 at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored and Cierra Sawyer had three hits in four at-bats with two runs scored.
