The 15th Annual Greater Lansing Area Festival will be taking place Sept. 13-14 at the Lansing Ball Field, across from the Old Lansing School.

“It’s just an effort of volunteers,” said Diana Billings, an organizer for the festival. “It’s a great family event.”

Friday events will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. while Saturday events will start at 10:30 a.m. and run until 8 p.m.

The not-for-profit event is sponsored by the Lansing American Legion Post 295 and Lansing Volunteer Fire Department.

Three musical acts will perform Friday evening, with eight bands performing Saturday. Alongside the music there will be vendors, food, a giant slide and door prizes.

Billings said there will be events for the children. The American Legion will be selling barbecue chicken and the fire department will sell hot dogs and hamburgers.

Prizes come from various Ashe County businesses including Ashe County Cheese, Parker Tie Co. and Smoky Mountain Barbeque.

The event is free, but donations are accepted. There will be no alcohol or pets are allowed.

“As far as the donations go, it stays in the festival,” Billings said.

The money earned stays within the festival to ensure it can continue into future years.
