The Log House Restaurant of Mouth of Wilson,Va., has expanded to West Jefferson, opening a new location on the

Backstreet this week.

Log House owners and lifetime Ashe County residents Susan and Tony Miller purchased Smithy’s Cafe last week, and are now open for business.

“We’ve remodelled the whole place and are trying to do some hiring — wait staff and cooks. Right now, it’s just us,” said Susan.

Log House will soon add a cold bar and hot bar, and will offer 100-plus menu items, including “quite a few sandwiches,” she said. “We want to offer good food and great service at a fair price.”

“We probably will have a grand opening later. Right now we’re just serving whoever walks in,” Susan said.

The Millers have operated the Mouth of Wilson location for nine years.

Smithy’s expanding Lansing location

Having sold her West Jefferson location, Smithy’s proprietor Penny Barker said she will be adding on an indoor dining room and an outbuilding at her Lansing location, as well as additional parking.

Smithy’s Lansing will be posting new hours, she said, and adding a Sunday dinner.

“I appreciate my West Jefferson customers for 13 years of business at that location,” Barker said. “Come up to Lansing sometime.”
