The town of West Jefferson is ready to kick off the holidays, and the entire town is expected to see an extravaganza.

The annual West Jefferson Holiday Parade will take place at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.

“(The parade) is always fun,” said Pete Yates, organizer of the parade. “It is a good time to come and be part of the community.”

The parade will organize at Ingles and then make its way through downtown West Jefferson before ending at the NAPA Auto Parts on U.S. 221 business. Yates said the route remains the same as previous years.

This year, the theme is “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” The commercial sponsor is Parker Tie Co., while it is hosted by the town of West Jefferson and organized by the West Jefferson Lions Club.

While some parts of the parade do remain the same, one new application has parade organizers excited.

“This year, we will have the Shriners miniature cars, which are always a big hit in parades,” Yates said. “This will be the first time we’ve had them on the route.”

Alongside the Shriners, the parade will have over 50 entrants in the parade including $6 million worth of fire trucks, marching bands and various church floats. No candy will be thrown from the parade floats.

“At the end of the parade we will have a special visitor,” Yates said. “I believe he’s from the North Pole.”

While the application process officially stopped on Wednesday, Nov. 13, Yates said interested applicants can still signup through Friday. There are rules regarding horses, antique cars and political affiliations.

Yates said he hopes to see a large crowd at the parade and hopes it’s a good kickoff to the holiday season.

“I want everybody to come out and enjoy the parade,” Yates said.
