It took a few extra minutes for the junior varsity Lady Huskies to get that first win of the season, but Ashe was able to hold on to a 32-25 win over Hibriten in overtime.
Hibriten led for most of the game, but Ashe battled back and tied the score at 25 going to the OT session.
Ashe held the Lady Panthers scoreless in the overtime and Alayne Spencer scored six of her 12 points in the final frame to secure the victory.
“I could not be happier with how the girls came out and played in the second half,” said Head Coach Mark Hudler. “It was good to see the girls smile after the game with all the hard work they have put in.”
Gianna Federico and Amber Miller each added five points. Courtney Sawyer scored four points. Amanda Gambill and Brooke Price scored three points apiece and Olivia Patton chipped in two points.
Ashe will travel to North Surry on Tuesday to face the Greyhounds for the second time in this early season. North Surry defeated the Lady Huskies, 36-25 in the previous contest.
