The Hotel Tavern and Ashe County Sharing Center have partnered to raise money to provide food for those in need.

“We have an exclusive partnership,” said Michael Sexton, program facilitator of the Sharing Center. “Any church member that brings in their bulletin on Sunday mornings for lunch, the Hotel Tavern will rebate 10 percent of the total bill to the Ashe County Sharing Center at the end of each month.”

Sexton said that any church can participate. Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays, the restaurant will donate a portion of the final bills of those who bring their church bulletins in, to the pantry.

Kelly Vannoy, chairperson of the Sharing Center Board of Directors, said this was a great way to help others.

“I think it is just a wonderful example of the folks at the Hotel Tavern getting involved in the community,” she said.

Restaurant co-owner Sherman Lyle said working in the food business, this partnership was something the restaurant believed in doing.

“We are very blessed to be in West Jefferson and see this as a way to give back,” said Sherman Lyle, co-owner of the Hotel Tavern.

Lyle said since the Hotel Tavern started this partnership with the Sharing Center, business during its Sunday brunch hours has increased.

“You give back and everything comes back to you,” he said.

Sexton said the idea came up when discussing different ways to raise money to buy food for the Sharing Center.

“With the ever growing demand for food from our clients in Ashe County, the people who need our resources, we had to think outside the box,” he said.

The Sharing Center is also continuing its Christmas Card promotion, as the holiday is fast approaching.

“We still have honor Christmas Cards for sale for $10 each,” Sexton said. “We still have a few of those left.”

Those who are interested in getting the cards for the season can call the Sharing Center at (336) 846-7019.
