It was a tough week of hoops for the varsity men’s team as they dropped a pair of road games in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
West Wilkes 52, Ashe 45
Ashe had three scorers reach double figures, but it was not enough to beat the Blackhawks in Miller’s Creek.
Senior Devan Sheets scored 12 points, Cullen Ashley had 10 points and seven rebounds and Bradley Lucas had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks to lead Ashe.
Alex Spencer added eight points, Corbin Winebarger scored three, Gavin Woodie hit one free throw and Connor Bowers also had one free throw.
West Wilkes improved to 10-6 with the win. Ashe dropped to 6-11 overall.
Alleghany 42, Ashe 31
The Huskies shot just 27-percent from the field to start off the second half of conference play with a tough loss at conference-leading Alleghany.
Lucas and Bowers led Ashe with six points. Spencer added five points, Ashley scored four points and had a team-high seven rebounds and Winebarger added three points. Sheets chipped in three, Woodie scored two and Parker Shelton had two points.
Ashe is now 6-12 overall and an even 4-4 in MVAC play. Alleghany is 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the MVAC. The Trojans are also undefeated at home (7-0).
The Huskies host Starmount on Tuesday and will go to North Wilkes on Friday. Ashe lost its previous meetings with both of those teams.
