Are you really ready for beautiful weather combined with great music? If so, then we have just what you need.
The West Jefferson Community Partnership continues its summer music series with its 2014 BackStreet Park Concert Series starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 20, with a performance by The Sheets Family Band, sponsored by WJCP member organization Christmas in July.
The Sheets Family Band is an old time string band from western North Carolina. The band features Randy Sheets on banjo, Kelly Sheets Snider on fiddle and Deborah Jean Sheets on guitar. Celebrated for their harmony singing and energetic instrumentals, they embody the values of homemade and homegrown music and lifestyle. Their old time mountain style takes inspiration from the music of the Appalachian Mountains and beyond. You’ll hear a variety of lively fiddle tunes, gospel songs, ballads, and a few drinking songs too. Rooted in a belief that music is an essential part of life, this band welcomes opportunities to teach and share in an effort to sustain traditions with a spirit of musical participation.
Other favorite local musicians are scheduled to perform concerts throughout the summer. These events are free and open to the public. A variety of musical styles from established local groups will perform at these concerts, sponsored by several Partnership members.
