Mrs. Chatham was born on Sept. 25, 1927, in Ashe County to the late Claude and Estelle Eller Mash.
Mrs. Chatham was a member of Glendale Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She worked as an activities coordinator for Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mary also was a volunteer at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She spent her lifetime giving and helping others.
Including her parents, Mrs. Chatham was preceded in death by brother, Kyle Mash; sister, Madge Hudler; and her husband, Gilmer Chatham.
Mrs. Chatham is survived by two sons, Gary Chatham of Jefferson and Greg Chatham and wife Jackie of West Jefferson; one daughter, Glenna Billings and husband Chy of Wilkesboro; three sisters, Maye Houck, Muriel Greer both of Jefferson, and Jean Sturgill of Grassy Creek; two brothers, Clate Mash of Elkin and Kenneth Mash of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Chase Chatham, Crystal Linville, Brian Chatham, Trey Billings; one great grandchild, Jocelynn Chatham; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at the Glendale Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Miller, Pastor Jim Belcher and Pastor Ricky Triplett officiating. Burial followed in Claude Mash Cemetery.
