Mack Alexander Caudell Sr., of Clyde Street, Sparta, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at his residence. He was 87.

He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Grayson County to the late Huston Carl and Emma Osborne Caudell.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Reba Sanders Caudell; one brother, Walter Caudell; and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Jacob Miller.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Charlie Smith, Susan and Roger “Huck” Adams, all of Sparta; one son, Mack A. Caudell Jr., of Hickory; one daughter-in-law, Betty Caudell of Sparta; two sisters, Ollie Sturdivant and Ruby Maines Brown, both of Sparta; one brother-in-law, Doug Greene and wife Wendy of Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren, Bryan Smith and wife April, Amanda Miller and husband Chadwin, and Petty Officer First Class Joshua Adams and wife Brittany; four great-grandchildren, Tanner, Kyleigh and Zoie Miller, Emma Smith; one step-grandson, Jason Evans and wife Denise; two step-great-granddaughters, Meaghan and Chloe Evans.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the New Haven Church of the Brethren in Sparta. Interment followed in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post #7034.
