An unidentified woman was transported to a local hospital after being injured in a one-vehicle crash at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to N.C. Highway Patrolman Kevin Aldridge, a late model Kia Sportage was traveling north on N.C. 88/194 when the driver’s vehicle left the roadway.

Just as the SUV passed the intersection of N.C. 88/194 and Claybank Road, the vehicle veered right, became airborne as it crossed over the small creek that runs along the road, made impact on the creek’s right bank, sliding back into to the creek without overturning.

When first responders arrived on the scene, there was a report an unidentified woman was unconscious. However, as EMS personnel loaded the injured driver into an awaiting ambulance, she was conscious.

It was unknown as to whether or not the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. It is also unknown as to whether or not charges will be filed.
