It was another cold and windy afternoon for the tennis players to have to battle, but Ashe took care of business, winning all nine matches against non-conference foe Oak Hill on Thursday.
“I am very proud of how our players braved the weather to win this match,” said head coach Larry Dix. “Our players played hard and did a good job controlling the ball with such wind gusts.”
Top seed Sam Bowers won his match without allowing his opponent to win a single game. Bowers was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over TW Bradshaw.
Lucas Zeller captured a 6-2, 6-2 win over fellow second seed Edson Vences.
In the third seed match, Een Shepherd was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over WonJun Jung.
Ashe won the final three singles matches as well. Jacob Oneal picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tae Joo Yang, Andrew Shepherd earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Spencer Titzman and Travis Stanley wrapped up singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph against Ming Wei Lee.
Bowers and Zeller started off the doubles matches with an 8-2 win against Bradshaw and Vences. E. Shepherd and Oneal took down Jung and Yang by an 8-1 score and finally Jake Harrington and Jordan Spell won their doubles match by an 8-4 tally over Yoon and Lee.
After traveling to Forbush on Monday, the tennis team will have two more home matches. Ashe hosts East Wilkes on Wednesday and Wilkes Central on Thursday.
