Fall Soccer Registration – Registration for Ashe County Youth Soccer League is currently underway. The league is open for ages 3 years old through rising 8th graders. A $20 per player late fee begins after June 30, 2016, so it is important to register your children during the month of June. Parents can register by mailing the forms and fee to: Mike Eldreth, PO Box 284, Lansing, NC 28643. Registration forms may be picked up at Tamales in Jefferson, or The Hobby Barn in West Jefferson. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Books are Fun Book Fair, sponsored by The Ashe Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be held in the Segraves Conference Room at the hospital. And again on June 24, 2016 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

7:30 p.m. Hello Dolly presented by the Ashe County Little Theatre will be held at the Ashe Civic Center. Sunday play time will be 2 p.m., all other dates, the play will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16, Students $5. Reserved seat tickets are available at the Ashe Arts Center. June 25

9:30 a.m. George Kosinski to lecture and give a demo on watercolor for the BRAC. The BRAC meets at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church, 201 S. Jefferson Ave., West Jefferson. Welcome and refreshments 9:30 a.m.; BRAC Business 10 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Program/Demo. BRAC membership is open to actively working artists and those interested in the ARts. 4 p.m. Pork Barbecue Dinner. Bethany Methodist Church will be selling pork barbecue plates. The plates will include baked beans, cole slaw, roll, and dessert. 1 p.m. Guided Canoe Trip. Come and canoe the New River with a Park Ranger. Learn the history of the river and basic canoe instruction while you enjoy a leisurely trip down the New. Wear clothing and shoes suitable for the water. Please be aware that the water temperature is cooler than the air. Life vests will be fitted at the Visitor Center prior to departure. The trip is limited to 10 people, so please call the park office for a reservation 33-982-2587. There is a small fee per person to cover the cost of shuttle service.

2 p.m. Free Outdoor Concert will be held at the Museum of Ashe County History. “Generation Excellent” will be performing. A group of young people that will amaze you with their talents. They will be performing on the green next to the Old Courthouse Building. Bring a chair, a blanket, and a picnic basket and enjoy the afternoon of music at the Museum. The Museum Exhibits will be open from 1 – 4 p.m. on concert days. The music and the museum are free. Come and enjoy this exciting concert.

6 – 9 p.m. Freezing Basics: Freezing Fruits, Vegetables and Prepared Food for Future Use Workshop will be held in the Agricultural Service Center Conference Room, (134 Government Circle, Jefferson, NC). space is limited. Registration is required to ensure adequate seating and materials. There is no charge to participate in the workshop. Registration is required by Friday, June 24, 2016. July 2

30th Annual Christmas in July Festival returns to the “Backstreet of downtown West Jefferson. Featuring handcrafted, original arts and crafts, the best in local music and dance, Non-Profit Row, and great food. The festivities kick off Friday evening with a street dance and music by the Lenz Frienz Band, Taylon Miller, Lucky Strikes Band, and the Buck Haggard Band on the Main Stage. Food vendors will be serving up great festival food from 6 – 10 p.m. Enjoy the celebration of our mountain heritage with Christmas in July. For more information visit www.christmasinjuly.info.

8 – 11 p.m. Summit Support Services is sponsoring a FUN-raiser following the Christmas in July Festival. The event – “A Midsummer’s Night Dream in a Forest Fantasy Ball” will be held at the Ashe County Arts Center. Summit support Services is a local provider agency that supports adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities. Twenty five percent of the profit from this event will be give to Ashe Family Literacy. summit hops to sponsor a dance and to select a charitable organization to share in the profits every year. The tickets for this event is $25 per person or $40 per couple, and are on sale at the Arts Center, Go Postal, Ashe County Cheese, and Summit Support Services. Come dressed in your best fantasy outfit for the costume contest and extra funds for the silent auction.

July 8

5 – 8 p.m. Two Artists, Two Visions. Watauga County artists Jacob Daniels and Tommy Lee McGhee join forces to present an exhibit of diverse artistic work. The artists use paint in very different ways to express themselves. The exhibit opens with a reception during the Gallery Crawl. The exhibit will run though August 6, 2016.

8 – 11 a.m. Lansing Blueberry Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for GLAD (Greater Lansing Area Development) will be held at the Lansing Fire Department, Hwy 194 N, along the beautiful Big Horse Creek which flows through the Historic Lansing Creeper Park. Featuring local blueberries from Old Orchard Creek Farm and country sausage provided by Rose Mountain Butcher Shop. The plates are $8 include pancakes, country sausage, and choice of beverage.

7:30 p.m. Blues in the Night. The Carolina Chamber Symphony Players with vocalist Martha Bassett return to the stage of the Ashe Civic Center for an evening of unforgettable music with songs from the great American Songbook. Selections include pieces by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael. Ashe County Bluegrass & Old Time Fiddlers Convention will be held at Ashe County Park, Jefferson. Camping opens at 8 a.m. on Friday, July 22. Traditional music lovers and performers will gather for two days of music and dancing with individual and band competitions in youth and adult categories. The competitions begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with prize money totaling $4,350. Dale Morris is the Emcee for the event. The 2016 judges are Steve Kilby, Trevor McKenzie and Lynn Worth.
