GLENDALE SPRINGS — Ashe County Sheriffs’ deputies seized approximately $225,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine and other paraphernalia at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 on Old Highway 16 in Glendale Springs.
Billy James Roten, 40, of North Wilkesboro was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking methamphetamine after deputies responded to a call regarding a vehicle blocking the road.
According to Ashe County Sheriff James Williams, Roten was found passed out in the middle of the road by the responding deputies who then discovered drugs upon approaching Roten’s vehicle.
Williams stated that Roten has been arrested before with drug related charges.
“He’s well known to us here at the sheriffs’ office,” Williams said. “He’s been down the block before but never to this extent.”
Deputies discovered approximately three pounds of crystal methamphetamine valued at $225,000, three jars of moonshine liquor, mushrooms, marijuana and more than $6,000 in cash inside Roten’s vehicle.
According to Williams, Roten remains at in the Ashe County Detention Center with no bond due to flight risk.
