ASHE COUNTY — The 7th Annual Soccer vs. Cancer fundraising event is set for Saturday, Sept. 19 at Blue Ridge Elementary. Ashe County Youth Soccer teams will be playing to raise money for the Williamson family.
Lukas, the son of Josh and Shannon Williamson, was diagnosed with an inoperable low grade glioma in his brain stem at only four-years-old. While in the hospital for treatment, he contracted a virus that resulted in respiratory failure and is currently on a ventilator. Lukas and his family have now been at Duke Hospital for a total of 13 weeks.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. with activities including soccer games with all 26 Ashe County Youth Soccer teams and a special Coaches vs. All Stars game at 3:45 p.m..
Pizza, barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and other food items will be available. A Steven Shoemaker print, bicycle and an elite corn hold board set will be given away at the championship game of the Ashe County Youth Soccer Tournament in October.
All proceeds from the event will go to Lukas and the Williamson family for medical expenses.
