West Jefferson man given $1 million bond in sex offense case

BOONE-A West Jefferson man, John Anthony Stines, 32, is facing multiple sex charges and a $1 million bond after he was arrested by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office earlier this month.

That news comes from a release issued by Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman’s office.

On Oct. 2, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Stine, of 592 Idlewild Mountain Estates, a registered sex offender, was on Parkway School property in Deep Gap. He was arrested and charged with one count of sex offender unlawfully on premises by the agency, and given a secured bond of $10,000 and a court date of Nov. 23, following an appearance before a magistrate.

In a separate case, Stines was charged with four counts of sexual offense with a child stemming from reports he allegedly assaulted a 6-year old child between October 2014 and June 3, 2015, according to the WCSO.

Stines is currently under a $1 million secured bond in that case.
