BAKERSVILLE-The reported boyfriend of a former Ashe County woman who was reported missing late last month has been charged with murder, according to Associated Press reports.
Mitchell County authorities told local media outlets that 41-year-old Cecil Scott Byrd was charged Nov. 4, after his vehicle was stopped in McDowell County.
He is charged in the death of 49-year-old Lisa Ann Robbins, a longtime Ashe County resident. She moved to Mitchell County earlier this year and was last seen on Oct. 3, according to family members.
After weeks of no communication with Robbins, her family members filed a missing person report with the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 23, which launched an investigation into the matter.
On Wednesday, Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street told the Jefferson Post his agency had found evidence that appeared to be human remains near the North Carolina-Tennessee border.
Byrd was later stopped on an outstanding warrant for using the debit card of another woman who is also missing, according to the Associated Press. Forty-five year old Sarah Denis Riddle was reported missing on Nov. 1, in McDowell County according to Street.
After being interviewed by authorities Wednesday, Byrd was charged with murder. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
