Wreck closes Idlewild Road for hours Thursday

(Adam Orr|Jefferson Post) The accident, which involved a white van with Ashe County Transportation Authority badging, occurred at approximately 5 p.m.


(Adam Orr|Jefferson Post) The North Carolina Highway Patrol, along with the Ashe County Rescue Squad and Fleetwood and Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Departments, shut traffic down on Idlewild Road for hours.


FLEETWOOD-A single vehicle accident closed much of Idlewild Road for hours Thursday evening as the North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the scene.

The accident, which happened just west of Hewed Log Gap on Idlewild Road, occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Dec. 10. A white van, with Ashe County Transportation Authority lettering on its sides and rear, came to rest on its roof.

The number of passengers in the van, and their condition is unknown. The Ashe County Rescue Squad, along with the Fleetwood and Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Departments, all responded to the scene.
