Truck slides off Big Peak Creek Road

LAUREL SPRINGS — An elderly couple made it out unscathed when the truck they were traveling in slid off the snow-covered road into a tree.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, William Dean Shepherd and his wife, Maggie, were traveling on Big Peak Creek Road at 11:15 a.m. when their Ford Ranger slid off the right side of the road and got pinned up against two trees.

Weather conditions were considered a factor in the accident.

No injuries were reported. The Laurel Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Ashe County Rescue Squad responded to the accident.
