ASHE COUNTY —Just three days into the new year, Melissa and Travis Green of West Jefferson welcomed their first child, Kinsley Elizabeth Abigail Green, to the world as Ashe County’s first baby of 2016.
Kinsley Green was delivered at Ashe Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 1:33 a.m. by Dr. Melinda Wonsick, weighing in at 7 lbs., 10 ounces and measuring 19.5 inches long.
She is named for Travis Green’s grandmother, Elizabeth.
Melissa Green, a Warrensville native, said that it is both exciting and surprising that her daughter was the first baby born in 2016 since she wasn’t actually due for another two weeks.
Travis Green, a Charlotte native, commended the staff of Ashe Memorial Hospital for meeting and exceeding all of his expectations.
“I’ve never seen bedside manner like they have here – never. Just the personalization of everything that they do is amazing,” Travis Green said. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
According to Travis Green, he first met his wife while working at Ink Link Tattoos and Piercings in Boone. He calls their first encounter “love at first sight.”
“I always thought that was a cliché But there’s a gravitational pull about this girl,” Travis Green said. “That’s my world right there. I can look at her and the whole world could disappear. As long as I have this right here, I don’t need anything else.”
The couple said they hope their daughter will take after their creative spirit.
“She’s going to be an artist, definitely creative,” Travis Green said.
So, who does the new baby girl look like? According to Travis Green, his daughter is the spitting image of her mother.
“She has her mom’s nose, her mom’s eyes – everything,” Travis Green said.
