Backstreet Concert Series continues June 26 with the King Bees

WEST JEFFERSON —The free Backstreet Park Concert Series continues Friday, June 26 with Ashe County’s own Blues style band, the King Bees.

The King Bees band is based in Todd, North Carolina and the group has toured all around the world including Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and New York City since 1987 when they were first founded.

The King Bees have toured with other Blues artists including Carey Bell, Nappy Brown and Jerry McCain, and have produced several CD’s after getting signed to Amsterdam’s Tramp Records in the mid-1990’s.

The group was also apart of B.B. King’s 80th Birthday Tour in 2005.

The King Bees will take the stage in Backstreet Park from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Bring your own chair and blanket and enjoy music with similarities to Bonnie Raitt, Big Mama Thornton, B.B. King, Memphis Minnie and Buddy Guy.

The event is sponsored by community organizations and admission is free.

The Free Backstreet Park Concert Series showcases traditional, old time, and bluegrass music every third and fourth Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., May through August.

The event will be moved to the Farmer’s Market or the Ashe Arts Center if there is conflicting weather.
