Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between Feb. 28 and March 5 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

March 1

6:23 a.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Old Highway 16 a little over a mile from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Teeka Lynn Kelley of Lansing was traveling east when the vehicle struck a deer in the roadway.

Kelley was uninjured.

The 2011 Kia had about $2,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

2:52 p.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident took place on Old Highway 16 about three miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Raina Irene Osborne of Crumpler was traveling south when the vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the left shoulder of the road, struck a tree and overturned down an embankment.

Osborne refused medical transport.

The 2006 Mazda involved had about $8,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Osborne was cited for driving left of center.

7:58 p.m.

West Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 194 less than a mile from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Sharon Bare Shepherd of West Jefferson was traveling south when the vehicle struck a deer that entered the road.

Shepherd was uninjured.

The 2015 Nissan involved had an estimated $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

March 3

3:31 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle collision happened on Mount Jefferson Road in West Jefferson near the intersection of Highway 221. According to the narrative, Becky Bailey Beland of Crumpler was traveling in the left lane. Beland did not see the vehicle driven by Jesus Guzman Hernandez of Jefferson and attempted to change lanes, sideswiping Hernandez’s vehicle.

Both drivers and one passenger, Jennie Winn of Crumpler, were uninjured.

Beland’s 2011 Lexus had about $900 in damages but was considered drivable.

Hernandez’s 2004 Chevrolet had about $200 in damages but was considered drivable.

Beland was cited for a safe movement violation.

March 4

10:09 a.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Mount Jefferson Road in West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Betty Surber Dean of Fleetwood was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn onto Highway 221. Jena Renee McDaniel of Jefferson was behind Dean’s vehicle and moved forward, striking the vehicle in the rear.

Both drivers were uninjured.

McDaniel’s 2014 GMC had about $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Dean’s 2003 Ford had about $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

McDaniel was cited for an unsafe movement.

10:32 a.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Golf Course Road at the intersection of Beaver Creek School Road about three miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Morgan Vanessa Church of West Jefferson was traveling east on Golf Course Road when the vehicle ran off the road to the right. The driver over-corrected and crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and traveled back onto the road, hitting a vehicle driven by Connor Addison Hart of West Jefferson. Hart was making a right turn onto the road. Church stated that she hit a patch of ice.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Church’s 2005 Chevrolet had about $4,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Hart’s 2005 Toyota had about $3,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Church was cited for exceeding safe speeds for weather conditions.

March 5

6:09 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 163 about four miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Gavin Ross Woodie of Glendale Springs was waiting to make a left turn onto Frank Dillard Road. A vehicle driven by Eva Nicole Hudson of West Jefferson failed to reduce speed in time and struck Woodie’s vehicle in the rear.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Hudson’s 2009 Honda had about $8,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Woodie’s 2006 Nissan had about $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Hudson was cited for failure to reduce speed.

6:47 p.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 about four miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Renee Dawn Pennington of Creston was traveling west. The driver stated that the windshield fogged up and she could not see the road. The vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck an embankment before coming to rest in a ditch.

Pennington and one passenger, Thomas Harold Carpenter of Warrensville, were uninjured.

The 2002 Subaru involved had approximately $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Pennington was cited for a lane control violation.
