Tirado murder case tops June superior court docket

JEFFERSON-A Lansing man accused of shooting and killing his son in December 2014 is once again listed on the Ashe County Superior Court docket.

Benjamin Nieves Tirado, 58, allegedly shot his 20-year-old son, Daniel David Tirado, following a domestic dispute on Dec. 18, 2014. Tirado is set to appear in court on June 1.

According to initial reports, sheriff’s deputies responded to a shots fired call around 7:30 p.m. that night at 2859 Ripshin Road in the Big Horse Creek area of Lansing.

“Deputies arrived and found a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder area,” Ashe Sheriff James Williams said in an earlier statement. “He was transported by Ashe Medics to Ashe Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Tirado was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Tirado has prior offenses that includes at least a breaking and entering conviction.
