JEFFERSON-Ashe County Manager Sam Yearick confirmed Wednesday that the Ashe County Courthouse has been evacuated following a bomb threat.

“We’ve just been alerted by the Sheriff that a pipe bomb threat was called in and we’ve evacuated the building,” Yearick said. “Everybody is out front and it feels like every first responder alive is out here.”

Yearick said emergency personnel are working to make sure all employees have evacuated the building. Then responders will take steps to clear the building should a bomb be found.

The Jefferson Post will update with more details as they become available.
