WEST JEFFERSON-Local ABC employees had a mess on their hands Friday morning after a driver crashed into the store.
Diane Yates, 65, of Purlear accidentally sent her Chrysler Voyager van into the side of West Jefferson’s ABC store Friday morning, according to West Jefferson Police Chief Jeff Rose.
As Yates was pulling into a parking spot at the store shortly after 11 a.m. on July 1, Rose said she inadvertently hit the accelerator when she was trying to apply the brake.
The van skipped over the small curb in front of the store and plowed into the exterior wall of the store. The impact put a sizeable hole in the brick wall and sent liquor bottles flying inside the store. No one was injured in the crash.
“I cannot believe I did that,” Yates said. “I’m just glad no one was hurt inside.”
Now, ABC store employees find themselves soaking up spilled liquor and collecting shards of glass from broken bottles ahead of the busy Fourth of July weekend.
