Sibling squabble ends in stabbing

Vincent John McCoy charged with assault with a deadly weapon

WEST JEFFERSON-A domestic dispute between two brothers took a dangerous turn Monday evening when one of the men stabbed his sibling during an argument about what to do with their elderly father.

Vincent John McCoy, 46, of 96 Brooke Glenn Drive, Mouth of Wilson, Va., was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly stabbed his brother, Dean Joseph McCoy, with a folding knife.

This transcript of events comes from the West Jefferson Police Department.

According to a report by Officer Kevin Richardson, the dispute started when the brothers reached an impasse over the living situation of their father.

Vincent McCoy claimed that his brother wanted to put him (their father) in an assisted living facility and that he “didn’t want to take care of him anymore,” according to the report.

Vincent also claimed his brother already had a six pack of beer and two “tall boys” prior to the fight, rendering him drunk and belligerent, he said in the report.

Vincent then claimed his brother, Dean, got out of his car and started hitting him in the side of the head. Vincent said he warned his brother that if he didn’t stop, he was going to stab him.

The report goes on to say that Vincent said his brother hit him two more times and at this point, he stabbed Dean in the arm. Vincent then left the scene, but later turned himself into authorities, according to the report.
