DEEP GAP-Officials said Tuesday morning US-221 in Deep Gap resumed normal operations around 10:40 a.m. Oct. 11.
That’s according to Ashe County Emergency Management Coordinator Patty Gambill.
The major intersection used by hundreds of commuters between Boone and West Jefferson each day was shut down at 6 p.m. Monday evening causing havoc for motorists.
Gambill said the shutdown became necessary after a construction crew working along the road hit a natural gas pipeline Monday. Gambill said natural gas never leaked from the pipeline.
Motorists were detoured along Cranberry Springs Road and Brownwood Road while workers attended to the problem.
