Ashe County wreck report


ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between June 14 and June 20 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

June 15

Highway 88

An animal collision happened at 6 a.m. on Highway 88 about 12 miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Timothy Adams Greene of Crumpler was traveling west when his vehicle struck a deer that ran into the roadway.

The 2003 GMC involved had about $700 in damages but was considered drivable.

Lansing

An animal collision took place at 4:55 p.m. on Helton Creek Road about five miles from Lansing. According to the narrative, Shirley Landreth Sturgill of Lansing was traveling west when her vehicle struck a deer that ran into the road.

The 2013 Chevrolet involved had about $1,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

June 16

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened at 10:50 a.m. on Highway 16 about two miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jennifer L. Griffin of Crumpler was slowing down for traffic ahead when the vehicle driven by Justin M. Stamper of West Jefferson struck Griffin’s vehicle in the rear.

Both drivers were uninjured. One passenger, Charles Griffin of Crumpler, was also uninjured.

Stamper’s 2001 Pontiac had about $300 in damages but was considered drivable.

Griffin’s 2006 Dodge had about $600 in damages but was considered drivable.

Stamper was cited for following too close.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident took place at 5:09 p.m. on Frank Dillard Road about three miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Travis Kent Casimir of Jefferson was traveling north when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, swerved back across the center line off the road to the left, struck a utility pole and overturned.

Casimir was uninjured.

The 2001 Lincoln involved had an estimated $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Casimir was cited for driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and driving left of center.

Lansing

A single-vehicle accident happened at 5:35 p.m. on North Fork New River Road near Lansing. According to the narrative, Shannon A. McCaa of Lansing was traveling west when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and into a ditch.

McCaa was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 2003 Kia involved had approximately $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

June 17

Highway 16

A two-vehicle accident happened at 8:10 a.m. on Highway 16 near Glendale Springs. According to the narrative, Beverly Ann Sturgill of Wilkesboro was traveling north with the left front wheel of the vehicle came off and struck a vehicle driven by William Austin Smith of Laurel Springs, who was traveling south.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Sturgill’s 2004 Subaru had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Smith’s 2014 Ford had about $2,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

Old Highway 16

A single-vehicle accident happened at 5:07 p.m. about nine miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Harold Landis Satterwhite of Crumpler was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and hit a ditch.

Satterwhite refused medical transport.

A passenger, Diane Poe of Todd, was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 2007 Toyota involved had an estimated $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Satterwhite was cited for reckless driving.
