WEST JEFFERSON —The West Jefferson Lions Club installed their new officers at their June 16 meeting at Smokey Mountain Barbecue by Paul Bledsoe from the Bermuda Run Lions Club. New officers will officially take office on July 1 for 2015-16 fiscal year.

The new Lions Club officers include include Lion Zshawn Phillips as President, Lion Jeff Caudill as Vice President, Lion Shelley Elliott as Treasurer, and Lion Sally Covington as Secretary. Other officers include Lion Tamer Maude Shatley, Tail Twister Gerald Elliott, and Membership Committee Chair Lion Jim Snyder.

Phillips has some significant goals as the new club president for local Lions this year including helping the Town of West Jefferson by sponsoring a fountain in a new park and restroom facility.

Lions Club members feel an obligation to serve, giving of time and labor. Members give to the community through projects such as Free Vision and Hearing Screening, patriotic flag displays on all major holidays, assistance with eye glasses, support of Camp Dogwood for the Blind, and giving to multiple local, state, national and international organizations to provide assistance to those in need.

The Lions Club has a very simple response to meeting challenges: “We Serve.” Members strive to meet this goal in all aspects of their lives.

The West Jefferson Lions Club help individuals in need of eye care, helping hundreds of people and collecting thousands of used eyeglasses annually.
