Ashe man killed in officer-involved shooting

Teresa Laws | Jefferson Post – The officer-involved shooting took place on Shatley Road on Wednesday night.

JEFFERSON – An Ashe County man was shot and killed Wednesday night by an Ashe County Sheriff’s Department deputy. A deputy was also injured during the incident.

Dallas Shatley, 62, of Crumpler was shot by sheriff’s deputies at the scene after Shatley confronted the officers who were responding to a disturbance.

According to Sheriff James Williams, a deputy was dragged by a vehicle driven by Shatley and shots were fired.

The deputy was treated and released from Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Williams also said that three deputies have been placed on administrative leave.

The incident was reported around 10 p.m. in Crumpler on Shatley Road, just off of Highway 16.

The SBI will be investigating the incident as they do with any officer-involved shooting.
