ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between June 21-27 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.
A two-vehicle accident occurred at 5:20 p.m. on Highway 221 less than a mile from Jefferson. According to the narrative, James Carlton Calloway of Jefferson was making a left turn off of Wade Bare Road onto Highway 221 when the right side of his vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Nicholas Earl Bottoms who was traveling east.
Both drivers were uninjured.
Calloway’s 2008 Chevrolet had about $3,000 in damages but was considered drivable.
Bottoms’ 2003 Subaru had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.
Calloway was cited for an unsafe movement.
A two-vehicle accident happened at 8:44 p.m. on Bare Trail about seven miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Bill Joe Billings of Laurel Springs was traveling west and Ardie G. Mullins of Spartanburg, South Carolina was traveling east. Mullins attempted to pass Billings on the left and the two vehicles sideswiped in the middle of the road. Billings left the scene while Mullins stopped to report the accident.
Both drivers and two passengers, Angel Severt of Spartanburg and Jessica Hollmer of West Jefferson, were uninjured.
Billings’ 1990 Chevrolet had about $200 in damages but was considered drivable.
Mullins’ 1992 Mercury had about $300 in damages but was considered drivable.
Billings was cited for failure to report an accident.
East Little Horse Creek
A single-vehicle accident occurred at 10 p.m. about nine miles from Lansing. According to the narrative, Johnny Keith Greer of Creston was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder and overturned down an embankment. The vehicle then struck a tree and came to a stop.
Greer refused medical transport.
The 2013 Jeep involved had about $25,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.
No citations were issued.
A three-vehicle accident happened at 5:23 p.m. on Highway 221 about seven miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Shelia Kay Phipps of West Jefferson was stopped to make a left turn onto Windy Hill Road when a vehicle driven by Jason Garrett Miller of Jefferson failed to stop in time and rear-ended Phipps. Debris from the accident struck a car driven by Kelsy Edward Combs of Crumpler.
All three drivers and two passengers, Kaitlyn Osborne of West Jefferson and Amber Osborne of West Jefferson, were uninjured.
Phipps’ 2011 Nissan had about $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.
Miller’s 2000 Toyota had about $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.
Combs’ 2001 Honda had about $200 in damages but was considered drivable.
Miller was cited for failure to reduce speed.
