WEST JEFFERSON — The Backstreet Park Summer Concert Series continues with the Sheets Family Band on Friday, July 17 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Sheets Family Band is an old time string band from western North Carolina and has performed during many events throughout the Appalachian area.
Members of the band include Deborah Jean Sheets on guitar, Kelly Sheets Snider on fiddle and Randy Sheets on banjo.
They have released three CD’s titled “The Birds Were Singing,” “The Sheets Family” and “A Southern Girl’s Reply.”
Sheets Family Band’s music features a variety of styles including fiddle tunes, gospel songs, and ballads.
The group has performed at events and venues all across North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee including Merlefest, Appalachian Mountain Musicfest, Albert Hash Festival, Ashe Arts Council, 580 WKSK, Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress and many more.
Sheets Family Band will also be performing at the Ola Belle Reed Festival in Lansing on Aug. 7.
The Backstreet Park Concert Series showcases traditional, old time, and bluegrass music every third and fourth Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., May through Aug..
The Series will continue through Aug. 14 with other performers such as the Crooked Road Ramblers, the Mountain Laurels, and the Elkville String Band.
The event is sponsored by community organizations and admission is free.
