JEFFERSON — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation released the names of two deputies involved in the shooting that killed Dallas Shatley last week.
According to the SBI, Christopher Lee Roten, a 10-year veteran of the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and Joshua Franklin Hopkins, a five-year veteran, responded to the call.
Shatley, 62, was shot after Roten and Hopkins responded to a disturbance call on July 8 on Shatley Road in Jefferson.
According to Sheriff James Williams last week, a deputy was dragged from the vehicle when Shatley attempted to drive off. Shots were fired after that.
The SBI report did not state which deputy was dragged by the vehicle.
The investigation is still ongoing and the SBI stated that no more details will be released at this time.
Additional information will be available after District Attorney Tom E. Horner reviews the investigation.
