WEST JEFFERSON — The fourth annual West Jefferson Olde Time Antiques Fair will feature more vendors, music and events for 2015.
The fair will kick off on Friday, Sept. 18 in Downtown West Jefferson along Jefferson Avenue from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 19, the fair will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to event organizer Keith Woodie, the fair will feature several changes this year which will allow the event to grow in size as it has in previous years.
According to Woodie, nearly 70 vendor spaces have been filled compared to 58 last year and more vendors are expected to sign up within the next month leading up to the fair. Some vendors are local and others are traveling from as far as Florida and West Virginia.
“The word is definitely getting out,” Woodie said.
Vendor items include: vintage furniture, coins, pottery, quilts, glassware and more. Food vendors will also be setup with kettle corn, funnel cakes and other festival food.
This year, the fair will feature more country and bluegrass bands performing on Friday and Saturday. Five bands are currently scheduled to perform including:
•Buck Haggard Band on Friday, Sept. 18 from 6-8 p.m.
•Madison Shepherd and the Mountain Park Oldtime Band on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10-11 a.m.
•Hard Times Bluegrass Band on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
•The Dollar Brothers Band on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 1-2 p.m.
•Fleetwood Folk on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
In celebration of West Jefferson’s Centennial, there will be a “Centennial Row” block featuring local handmade and homegrown items from Ashe County. The block will be located between State Street and Ashe Street along Jefferson Avenue.
The fair will also hold the second annual old-timey checkers tournament.
“The festival seems to have a big draw and really helps our local businesses,” Woodie said. “That’s kind of our main purpose and drive behind it.”
