The Ashe County Sheriffs’ Office is requesting the public’s help in bringing two men to justice who are wanted on several charges stemming from a wide-ranging drug investigation.
Anthony Duane Byers, 40, of Jefferson and Anthony Lee Day, 38, of Crumpler, are wanted on multiple felony charges, according to the ACSO.
Both men have long criminal histories spanning several decades, according to information culled from the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
Sheriff James Williams said the two are currently facing 20 years to life in prison.
According to documents released by the ACSO, Byers is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon (Norinco 98 12 gauge shotgun), possession of a weapon of mass death and destruction (.22 Rossie rifle with an overall length of 25.75 inches) and possession of .5 ounces of marijuana or less.
Byers plead guilty to a felony of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, in Ashe County, in July 2004, and was sentenced to 61 to 83 months in prison.
Day is charged with possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia (glass meth pipe with a rubber hose and a marijuana pipe with residue) and .5 ounces of marijuana or less.
Williams said he believes both men are still hiding in the area.
Additional information on the entire scope of the investigation is unavailable at this time, pending the arrests of the fugitives and the completion of the investigation.
Williams said it’s possible that the ACSO will offer a reward through Crimestoppers for any information that leads to the arrests of the two men.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Byers and Day is urged to contact the ACSO at 336-846-5633.
