SkyLine Membership Corporation will usher in new services designed to make homes and businesses smarter with the opening of its newest Ashe County Retail and Smart Technologies location later this month. Set to open on Monday, Nov. 18, in a unique cabin setting just off U.S. 221 at 1060 Mount Jefferson Road and across from Community One Bank, the new location also will reflect expanded business hours on Saturdays for greater customer convenience.

With standard business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and new Saturday hours for walk-in traffic only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the new Mount Jefferson Road location will become the go-to place where customers can pay their bill as well as get complete customer support for the wide range of services now available through SkyLine, SkyBest or Carolina West Wireless. The new location will feature multiple customer service kiosks, live bars featuring the latest wireless phones and Roku devices, and a knowledgeable, full-service staff to assist customers with phone, Internet, TV, security and wireless services in addition to new services that are debuting in conjunction with the store’s opening.

SkyLine-SkyBest’s West Jefferson Customer Center on N.C. 194 will transition to a call center but will continue to accept payments for SkyLine, SkyBest and Carolina West Wireless services from both walk-in and drive-through customers during usual business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The new Smart Home and Retail Store will reflect the cooperative’s commitment to moving progress forward with its latest line-up of tech-savvy services: home automation and video surveillance. The common thread with these two new services is that they can be accessed through a customer’s Internet connection and managed using a PC, Smart phone or tablet.

“We are expanding our product line with the addition of self-monitoring video surveillance and home automation services while making it affordable for our customers,” said CEO Jimmy Blevins. “Today’s consumers want the latest technology, and with our extensive fiber-to-the-home (FTTP) deployment to our customers, we can easily pair immensely high-speed broadband with these new technologies. We view this latest development as a natural progression to help our customers discover innovative ways to add greater value to their broadband connection.”

SkyBest Automation is a home-based solution that features a “gateway” that connects all of your control devices. This gateway gives immediate access through your Internet connection to manage and control various settings in your home while you’re at home or away. A wide variety of control devices will be available for purchase. From motion sensors to electrical outlets, the customer can control virtually anything that can be plugged in to an interior or exterior outlet; door locks that can be locked or unlocked, lamps that can be turned on or off and thermostats that can be set. When temperatures or humidity levels drop or rise to excessively levels or water leaks or flooding are detected, you can be alerted on your Smart phone or Internet-enabled device.

SkyBest Surveillance also uses the same gateway to connect all cameras installed at your home and allows remote access. Ideal for residential or business customers, SkyBest Surveillance gives a real-time look into the home/business, a customized recording period, or triggered events such as motion, door lock activity or door/window openings. The service supports both basic home and premium commercial-grade cameras.

Customers can enter the retail store entrance next to the parking lot, and the Smart Home demonstration area will be featured off the right front entrance of the facility in the great room and kitchen. Several live tablet devices will be available for customers to see firsthand how the new automation and surveillance services can be integrated with their broadband service.

In addition to these new services, the Smart Home area will reflect other innovative displays including Smart kitchen appliances and Smart Tint, which tints your windows for maximum privacy and energy efficiency. Another application, called the Roomie Room, controls your Mirror TV and other video equipment.
