Cash Mob Ashe visited two West Jefferson Businesses on Saturday, Jan. 25 to stimulate the local economy and small businesses.
“This by far was our most successful Cash Mob,” said Nancy Shannon, leader of Cash Mob Ashe. “We had a big crowd come out and we had a lot of enthusiasm.”
The mob visited Mountain Outfitters on Jefferson Ave. and then had lunch at Hotel Tavern.
Also with the mob was Sue Counts, who is running for N.C. House District 93. The district seat, which covers Ashe and Watauga counties is held by Jonathan Jordan.
Shannon said Mountain Outfitters had several specials for clothing including 30 percent off on children’s shoes and clothes. The Hotel Tavern had a special Cash Mob menu featuring Ashe County products.
“We are becoming more able to spread the message throughout the community about buying local,” she said.
Shannon said they hope to have dates for Jefferson and West Jefferson for February and March, respectively.
“I’m hoping to do something in February and that we can nail something down for Jefferson,” she said.
For the mob, which started for Ashe County in January 2013, this most recent mob was the biggest the group has hosted.
“We are just delighted that the mobs are growing,” Shannon said. “We hope to see them grow even more.”
