Boondocks Brewing Company is hosting the inaugural “Sounds for Hounds,” a fundraiser to benefit Second Chance Dogs of Ashe County, from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 7.
Throughout the afternoon, there will be live music, raffle drawings, local vendors with dog goods and services and an adoption fair on the deck and in the back parking lot of Boondocks, in downtown West Jefferson.
“There’s going to be live music, door prizes and people can bring their dogs as we’ll be outside on the deck,” Lisa Fitzpatrick, who serves on the board of directors of Second Chance Dogs of Ashe, said.
Fitzpatrick said 580 WKSK will be on hand broadcasting from the event.
Local music acts Southern House in Transit, Town and Country and Matt Bizzell will be performing live at Sounds for Hounds.
“The bands will be playing outside on the deck and the vendors and adoption event will be in the parking area next to the back,” Fitzpatrick said.
“Over the past two years, Second Chance Dogs of Ashe has rescued about 500 dogs from our local shelter, private owners and strays, reducing the amount of dogs euthanized at the shelter and reducing the number of unwanted litters by ensuring all dogs adopted are spayed and neutered,” Fitzpatrick said.
Every dog rescued by Second Chance Dogs of Ashe is vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed prior to being put up for adoption.
Second Chance Dogs of Ashe will have dogs available for adoption at the event.
In addition to Boondocks, Miller Insurance, Animal Hospital of Ashe, Ashe Medics, Ultra Pressure Washing, RDR Kennels and 580 WKSK are sponsoring the event.
Fitzpatrick said door prizes have been donated by 20 area businesses including Wahoo Adventures, River Canoes, Sweet and Savory, Ashe County Cheese and Mountainaire Golf Club.
“We are looking forward to people coming out and having a good time for a great cause,” Fitzpatrick said.
