A Helton man in his late 20s was airlifted by WINGS to the Johnson City Medical Center at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday from the ball field in Lansing for treatment of serious injuries as a result of a four-wheeler accident at approximately 7:15 p.m. According to several sources, the injured man had been impaled with an object that pierced his front left rib cage area and exited his back. According to those sources, the accident occurred in the 1400 block of N.C. 194 North, near the Helton Volunteer Ambulance Service building. The identity of the man and the severity of his injuries is unknown. Responding to the accident were the Ashe County Rescue Squad, the Helton Volunteer Ambulance Service, and Lansing Volunteer Fire Department.
