What could be better than an evening in the mountains where the weather is cool, the people are friendly and artistic talent is abundant?
The second Friday night Gallery Crawl in downtown West Jefferson is the place to be for all three. The Ashe County Arts Council will again sponsor Gallery Crawl from 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Crawlers are invited to stroll the streets, visit the galleries, view the downtown murals and take advantage of the downtown restaurants.
Eighteen galleries will be open after hours to showcase the latest exciting artwork of talented local and regional artists. The participating galleries include: Acorn Gallery, Ashe Arts Center, Ashe Custom Framing and Gallery, Backstreet Beads, Bohemia Gallery, Broomfields Gallery, Catch-Light Gallery, Everything Has a Story, Fiber Artisans’ Gallery, Florence Thomas Art School, French’s Art Galley, Originals Only Gallery, Ripples Gallery, RT Morgan Art Gallery, Shoemaker Studio, The Artists’ Theatre, The Vintage Locket and Tin Roof Gallery and Studio.
For the August Gallery Crawl, the Ashe Arts Center will present a new exhibit by the Ashe Camera Club in the gallery. Ashe Camera Club exhibit will feature local photographers both regular and new club members. provides a central meeting place for photographers to share their work and learn from members. They meet monthly and programs are intended to educate and entertain. The opening reception will be during Gallery Crawl from 5-8 p.m.
Everything Has a Story will be featuring Suzanne Zielaskowski, Barn Quilt Artisan along with special promotional pricing for any orders placed during the Crawl. They feature over 120 talented individuals from the youngest creative talent who is 8 to our oldest who is 93 years young. New merchandise arrives daily with the addition of new artists. For the Crawl, Everything Has A Story will also be serving non-alcoholic Moonshine and having a tasting of Traffic, Toe & Frog Jam on fresh biscuits!
Acorn Gallery will be featuring oils by Marcelo Lopez, a Brazilian artists who depicts works from the Brazilian rain forest and Sao Paulo. Raney Rogers will feature new unframed watercolors.
