In the first conference match of the golf season, Elkin appears to be picking up right where they left off last year.
The defending Mountain Valley Conference Champions won the first conference match last week at High Meadows Country Club with a team score of 123, 29 shots better than second place Alleghany. Ashe was third with a team score of 157 and Wilkes Central was fourth with a score of 187.
Annika Winebarger had the best individual score, shooting 34 while her Elkin teammate Mary Frances Hall was second, two shots behind with a 36.
Alleghany golfer Katie Tally shot a 42, good enough for third place. Ashe freshman Sarah Hardin shot 45 and Elkin’s Palmer Duncan rounded out the top five scorers with a 53.
Ashe’s Olivia Barr and Makensie Shatley finished with a 56. Alexis Howell shot 60 and Savannah Brooks finished with a 63.
