Another strong performance from the junior varsity Huskies gave the squad an 8-1 record and kept them perfect in conference play. Ashe took down Starmount, 36-14
The Huskies scored halfway through the first quarter with a 22-yard pass from Colin Ellis to Sam Henson for a 7-0 lead.
Kendall Richardson nailed a 25-yard field goal with 5:50 left in the second quarter to increase the Ashe lead by three points.
Ashe continued pouring it on with a 30-yard run by Hunter Argetsinger that set up a one-yard TD plunge from Tristen Jones.
With just nine seconds left, Starmount completed a 53-yard TD pass to give the Rams a little momentum headed into the halftime break. Ashe was ahead 16-6.
Jones scampered for his second touchdown of the evening, this one from 18 yards out with 3:07 left in the third. Richardson’s extra point was good, resulting in a 23-6 lead.
Sam Hudler forced a Ram turnover as he recovered a fumble, but the Husky offense was unable to capitalize.
Starmount scored on the first play of the fourth quarter, cutting its deficit to nine points at 23-14.
On the next drive, Alex Richardson ripped off a 20-yard run and then Argetsinger scooted for 15 yards and another TD to increase the lead to 29-14.
Richardson started the next Ashe drive with a powerful run that carried a Ram defender for the last 10 yards. Another 14-yard run by Richardson and a carry by Ellis put the ball at the Rams’ one-yard line. Richardson punched it in for his lone TD of the night as the Huskies began to pull away. Ashe was now ahead 36-14 with just over two minutes left.
The Ram offense had nothing else left in the tank in the final two minutes.
